Parking and parade-day details

Plan to arrive early on Monday morning to leave time to find parking. Parking in Lexington is available in several city lots, as well as on the street downtown and in the surrounding neighborhoods. This parking guide shows the major public parking lots.

We’ll begin to assemble in the Stand Up area at 10:15 a.m. (no earlier than 10:00 a.m. per our permit). The Stand Up will begin at 10:30 and finish at 10:45, no later than 11:00.

Due to pandemic health concerns, this year’s celebration is designed to allow community members to find and maintain a distanced space to demonstrate public commitment to an equal and inclusive community. For the health and safety of yourself and others please wear face coverings. We will Stand Up for Justice, Love, and Equality in the streets of our Community!

Stand Up Area: Main Street between Preston and Henry Streets, Henry Street, Washington Street, and Nelson Street (all between Main and Jefferson Streets) and Jefferson Street (between Preston and Henry Streets). We will leave Randolph Street and Preston Street open to regular traffic in order to reduce gathering there and to allow for participants to have better drive in and parking access via Randolph and the public parking lot there and Preston Street open in order to avoid traffic rerouting problems while we simultaneously occupy the streets at the center of town.

Temperatures in January can be chilly, so be sure to bundle up! Selection of CARE themed winter hats in the CARE Store. After the parade, we encourage you to visit one of Lexington’s many coffee shops and restaurants for a warm beverage and a snack.

As a reminder, the MLK Community Stand Up is a family-friendly, non-violent event. In that spirit, we request that participants maintain a policy of non-engagement with any protesters or others not involved in the parade.
